The Galleria Borghese is situated in Villa Borghese and exhibits
work by many important Italian painters and sculptors including:
Bernini, Canova, Bronzino, Caravaggio, Titian and many others.
It is thanks to the collection of Cardinal Scipione, who lived
in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, that we can still admire
art dating back to ancient times and the Renaissance period.
The gallery also features Canova’s famous statue dedicated
to Paolina Bonaparte Borghese, and in the early 19th century Camillo
Borghese sold to Emperor Napoleon a large number of statues, busts
and bas-reliefs that can be seen at the Louvre.
After 1830, archaeological finds and works recovered from the
cellars of Villa Borghese were also added to the Gallery.
Some of the most important paintings in the collection include:
Boy with a Basket of Fruit and David with the Head of Goliath
by Caravaggio, the statue of Paolina Borghese by Canova, Apollo
and Daphne by Bernini, and Sacred and Profane Love by Titian.
Entrance granted to a maximum of 360 people for each two-hour
