Trevi Fountain, one of the most beautiful and remarkable monuments
in Rome, features a shell-shaped chariot drawn by tritons, taming
seahorses.
At the centre stands the statue of Neptune, created by Pietro
Bracci, while in the niches flanking the Roman god are the statues
of Abundance and Health, both the work of the sculptor Filippo
Della Valle.
The overall design of the Trevi Fountain is the work of Nicola
Selvi and is a sumptuous example of Baroque architecture and sculpture.
There is a famous legend that if visitors throw a coin into the
fountain, they are ensured a return to Rome. The Virgin aqueduct
constructed in 19 BC still channels water to the fountain.
